In the beginning of internship I had a goal: To forge a strong relationship with my supervisor. After ten weeks, I’m proud to say that achieved this goal because now I have a great relationship with Tracey. I learned a few things at the library. Some skills I gained are how to be organized and accurate just like my supervisor. The most memorable moment of my internship is the last day of it. My supervisor brought a cake for me to show how thankful she was that I was an intern at the Clinton Hill Branch. She also gave a paper where she and other staff members wrote some good things about me.
After spending 125 hours at my internship my thoughts have changed about jobs, careers, and the professional world. Jobs are not always as I think they are. Being a librarian is not easy job you have to deal with a lot of people and paperwork every day. They have their own challenges and responsibilities. My biggest challenge that I had to overcome was the kids. WOW, they made such messes in their section of the library. And guess who had to clean up? ME! To overcome this challenge I had to smile at them or just ignore them, since there was no other way to teach them how to not make a mess.
If I were to start a brand new internship next week, I would choose some other things to do besides shelving and I would try to complete my hours week by week. My advice to future interns is showing your talent, being on time, and having a strong relationship with your supervisor. The people I would miss about my internship are my supervisor and other staff members.
